Note: The identity of Rutpert IV (Robert the Strong)'s wife is uncertain, but identifying her as a Carolingian is an old error based on misinterpretaitons. An old document shows Hugues the Abbot as son of Lothair II's 'matertera', and this word was interpreted as (paternal) aunt. In fact 'matertera' always means maternal aunt. Another misinterpretation incorrectly made Rutpert IV's wife the widow of Conrad de Auxerre. Thank you to Ricardo Canedo for this correction (and many others).
