The PEDIGREE of
Peter BROWN

(The Mayflower Society does not recognize him as the son of Mayflower Brown, but there is some evidence; Court may have granted him property from his putative father who had `divers children by divers wives')

Note: 'Authorities' insist that this Peter Brown was not the son of Mayflower Peter; this is based mainly on the fact that Peter wasn't mentioned in the Mayflower man's will. They're probably correct. HOWEVER, might Peter have been a bastard that his father didn't want to bequeath to, or perhaps even acknowledge? There is an old tradition of the connection. What strikes me are documents that refer to Mayflower Peter's 'diverse wives.' Wouldn't that be a strange phrasing if, as the 'authorities' insist, the man had only two wives?
