    Note: Of great service to the King during Civil War, he was first Laird of Cochrane to be elevated to the Peerage; made Baron 27 Dec 1647 and Earl 12 May, 1669. He served in Parliament, the King's Privy Council, and Exchequer.
    The 2nd-7th Earls of Dundonald descend from his oldest son but that line became extinct and the 8th Earl descends from his other son.
